hesperidium

"Meanwhile the sunsets are mad orange fools raging in the gloom."

This was such an energetic piece to work on - so many fun movements to the layers of the paint. When you look toward the top of this painting, you can see lovely translucent layers that add delicacy and a lacey quality that I really enjoy.

Orange isn’t just the bright, juicy rind - it was important for me to add in the deeper elements of burnt orange and see how everything layered together. If you look closely, you’ll even find a couple of neon highlights. :)

In all my paintings, you’ll see final marks made with charcoals, pastels, and even scratches made directly in the wet paint. What’s your favorite detail element?

hesperidium: the fruit of a citrus plant, as an orange.
