“Time is purple / Just before night”

1 of my 2 largest paintings to date! While I dedicated the other largest canvas to my own favorite color (green), I knew right away that the other large piece should be purple. There is such a depth and richness and fascination to purple. Humans have loved purple since our beginnings, and that fascination continues.

The top layers are playful and warm and are complemented by the cool, deep eddies below. I used a new tool on this larger canvas, and I appreciate how it moved the paint in large scale curves and structured created lines not seen in other pieces of the collection.

In all my paintings, you’ll see final marks made with charcoals, pastels, and even scratches made directly in the wet paint. What’s your favorite detail element?
